One World Music in Mallorca Sunday 5 NovemberOctober 31, 2017

On Sunday 5 November over 100 artists, performers and yogis will be taking part in the second Mallorca One World Music Festival in the beautiful surroundings of Ca Na Susi, just off the road that takes you from Valldemossa to Palma.

Described as a festival of ‘music, dance, circus, massive yoga classes, wellness areas, workshops with a craft market and exotic vegetarian foods from around the world’, One World Music features many performers who will be familiar to world music lovers on the island.

Among them will be Omar Niang, who has rocked Sa Fonda for several blissful hours on more than one occasion, singer Cumie and eastern fusion dancer Bibiana Cass. But, as they say, there are going to be many more treats for you in store on Sunday.

Festival island

It really does seem that, with the One World Music Festival and other events in recent years, Mallorca is coming of age as a festival island. After all, we do have all the necessary ingredients – great weather, beautiful locations that are easy to get to, a wealth of highly talented and dedicated performers and, most important of all, a real dedication to making Mallorca a centre for a certain kind of conscious creative activism.

This last element is actively shaping the identity of the Mallorcan cultural scene. Every festival I can think of combines performance with consciousness-raising activities like yoga, for instance. At the same time, there’s the sense that Mallorca is becoming representative of a certain kind of new world perspective – much-needed in these trying times.

As Antoine Bonsorte, directer of Mana Cultura, the non-profit organisation behind the One World Music Festival, says ‘The goal of our initiative is to unite in a common effort to help develop local and international culture linked to well-being. Mallorca to the world, the world in Mallorca.’

It’s appropriate then that the festival will also be a celebration of the Beaver full moon. Beavers are highly regarded spirit animals, the builders of their own lives and symbols of accomplishment through cooperation.

All the signs are that Sunday’s One World Music Festival will be a wonderful day of conscious fun for all the family and an event well worth your support.
