Also, some houses in Deia and the West Coast are listed with multiple agents and demand is very high in the summer, especially in July and August. If you’re ready to book and the house is you’ve fallen in love with is free on your dates, secure it as soon as you can.’

What makes a popular property?
The Deia holiday rentals on Charles Marlow’s books are mostly three or four-bedroom homes for families with children. Larger homes are popular with groups of friends or more than one family.
In Nikol’s experience, it’s the properties with large pools in walking distance of the village that are rented first. ‘The most popular homes are behind Belmond La Residencia,’ she explains, ‘but there are also a few up by the church. As you can imagine, these have great views and get plenty of sunshine all day long.’
Are there any best-kept secrets? ‘We have some really popular homes for rent in Alconasser, between Deia and Soller. Alconasser is perfect if you’d like peace and quiet but want to be within short drive of great restaurants, bars and nightlife.’
What about couples? ‘There’s Casa Piña, a large and lovely one-bedroom apartment with great views. We’re working on being able to offer more choice for couples, especially newlyweds on honeymoon.’
