Charles Marlow is celebrating another great year and the coming of the Deia Christmas holiday season with our annual party on Wednesday 5 December at our offices at 6 pm. And you’re all invited.
Maria Garde, West Coast Sales Director, has been looking forward to the Charles Marlow Deia Christmas party for a while. ‘We’ve been counting down the days until it’s acceptable to take out the cinnamon candles and have Mariah Carey on repeat all day,’ she says.
‘I always think our Christmas get together is one of our most heartwarming gifts to the Deia community, adds Nikol Vlkova, West Coast Rentals Manager. ‘It’s great to bring everyone together before the holiday season really gets into full swing. We love sharing smiles and hugs with our friends in the village over a cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate, creating a feeling of togetherness and sharing some Christmas joy.’
Apart from the fact that the Deia Christmas holidays go on for an exceptionally long time – only ending after the arrival of the Three Kings on 6 January – a Mallorca Christmas is rather different from elsewhere in Europe.
As Nikol says ‘Growing up in a colder climate, it was difficult for me to imagine Christmas without snow. But the holidays are special in Mallorca too. Palma is dressed up in Christmas lights. Family is particularly important here and the streets are filled with people going to meet their loved ones over a hearty meal. The smaller towns and villages like Deia are quiet and peaceful.’
‘December is also a great month to explore Mallorca,’ says Maria. ‘It’s the time for walking on the coast and in the mountains around Deia. Because the island’s so easy to get around, it’s also great fun to drive to somewhere you’ve never visited before and try a different cosy café or restaurant like Es Taller in Valldemossa. There are also beautiful days when the sky is blue, the sun is shining, and it feels great to be alive.’
This year’s Charles Marlow Deia Christmas celebrations will be especially sweet for the team because it’s been another excellent year for the company in both Deia and Ibiza.
‘Rentals were a big success,’ Nikol says. ‘Each year we grow and learn. We become more confident that we’re offering the best houses and our services are improving all the time. Now we’re busy elves, getting rentals ready for next year.’
The sales side of things has also been healthy. As Maria explains, ‘We’ve welcomed new members to the team which has allowed us to build on the successes of rentals and sales in Mallorca and Ibiza. An expanded team has also given us the space to focus on new project that will take the business to another level for 2019.’
Nikol loves to eat warm bunyols on the street with a cup of hot chocolate.
Maria heads for the Christmas market at Pueblo Español in Palma where there’s always ‘a lovely festive atmosphere with live music, food and artisan stalls. I’ll also be preparing gift boxes to give out to some of the homeless people living in Palma – blankets, warm socks, a pillow and so on. We shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that Christmas can be the best time of the year for most of us but not so great for others. If people reading this would like to donate blankets, socks, pillows and anything else they think would help homeless people, feel free to bring them into the office. We’ll make sure they’re put to good use.’
‘I’ll let you know next year,’ says Andreas, the newest member of the team. ‘This is my first Christmas on the island and I’m really looking forward to seeing all the ways it’s different from my native Denmark.’
If we don’t see you at the Charles Marlow Deia Christma party on Wednesday 5 December at 6 pm, we’re open until December 12 and then closed until January 2.
