The village of Fornalutx sits in the heart of the Sierra Tramuntana mountain range and is approximately 45 km north west of the capital Palma. The area consists of a spectacular valley, which starts from the Puig Major and descends towards the town of Soller. Up until 1837 it was a joint municipality with Soller, before having its own independence.
It is considered by many to be one of the best preserved and most beautiful on the whole island and has also even held the accolade for prettiest village in the whole of Spain. The dramatic mountainous backdrop with terraces rising up as far as you can see make for a picturesque postcard setting. The area is also lush with beautiful orchards full of Orange and Lemon trees.
Despite its small size, there is a good variety of restaurants and cafes. The village is within a short drive of the Port de Soller which has its own sandy beach and well-sized marina. With Palma accessible through the Soller tunnel in just 40 minutes, it makes for a relaxed rustic hideaway but with the island’s capital and airport still within easy reach.
